Paragliding License Training
Soaring through the air in a paraglider never fails to leave you speechless with joy. But that doesn't mean there aren't some basic questions that deserve good and clear answers. Here you will find answers about paragliding training in Austria, the German A-license, and booking with us.
How does the paragliding license training work?
The training consists of several sections that you can book individually or combined:
- Taster Course (½ day, a full day available upon request): You try out paragliding at the practice slope.
- Basic Course (4 days): You learn how to inflate, launch, steer, and land at the practice slope and take your first flights.
- Advanced Course (5 days): You deepen your learning and accumulate more flights. All flights will count towards your A-license.
- Combined Course (8 days): Basic course and advanced course together, cheaper than both individually.
- High-Altitude Flight Course (1 week): You accumulate the required flights for the paragliding license.
Theory lessons are provided alongside the training. At the end, there are the theoretical and practical exams.
Is paragliding dangerous?
Paragliding is not an extreme sport. Like any sport, there are risks, but with good training, the right equipment, and sensible decisions regarding the weather, they can be well managed. With us, you learn step by step: first at the practice slope, then from low launch sites, and only after that from higher ones. Our flight instructors accompany you on every flight via radio.
What requirements do I need?
- Minimum age 14 years, under 18 with the consent of legal guardians. You will receive your paragliding license from age 15.
- Normal physical fitness. You don't have to be a top athlete; walking a few steps is enough.
- Maximum body weight 110 kg
- Sturdy footwear and a good mood
By signing up, you confirm that you are medically fit to participate.
Will I get the Austrian or the German license?
Both are possible. Through our cooperation with German flight schools, you can obtain both the Austrian paragliding license and the German license (DHV) with us. Also ideal for flight students from Germany who want to do their training during a holiday in the Alps.
What do I learn in theory?
Meteorology, flight technique, aviation law, equipment knowledge, aerodynamics, and hazard briefing. This will prepare you well for the theoretical exam.
How long does the training take until I get the license?
It depends on the weather, your time, and your learning progress. With good weather, you can do it with the combined course and high-altitude flight course, so in two course weeks*.
In the high-altitude flight course, a total of 40 flights are included free of charge within one year. If you do not complete them during the course week due to weather conditions or cannot be there for the whole week, you can make up the missing flights free of charge at a later date. You can also participate on a daily basis and do not have to take the whole week off.
* For this, there is no guarantee; it depends mainly on the weather.
How much does the training cost?
- Taster Course: €90
- Basic Course: €640
- Advanced Course: €640
- Combined Course (Basic Course and Advanced Course): €1,190
- High-Altitude Flight Course: €890 with your own equipment, €1,140 with rental equipment
Launch and landing fees, as well as the shuttle service to the flight areas, are included in all courses. Not included in the course price are lift tickets, accommodation, meals, and exam fees. The theory and practical exams cost €45 each, €70 for both together. For GFC Hohe Tauern club members, both exams together cost €45.
Do I need my own equipment?
No. Rental equipment is included in the taster course, basic course, advanced course, and combined course. For the high-altitude flight course, you can bring your own equipment or book the rental equipment for the course week (+€250). If you would like to buy your own equipment, we are happy to advise you personally.
What happens in bad weather?
The flight instructor decides whether and where to fly depending on the local weather. If the weather does not allow for proper training, we will arrange an alternative date with you or credit the amount for another course. In the high-altitude flight course, a total of 40 flights are included free of charge within one year. Flights that were not possible due to weather conditions can therefore be made up free of charge.
Where does the training take place?
In Neukirchen am Großvenediger in Pinzgau, right in the middle of the Hohe Tauern National Park. We have daily valley wind for ground handling, a large practice slope, and launch sites with 300, 400, 500, 900 and 1,200 metres of altitude difference. This way, you can safely gain altitude step by step.

The easiest way is directly here in the online shop: select the course and date, pay, and you will receive a confirmation by email immediately. This secures your spot. You can also sign up by email or phone. We are happy to advise you beforehand on which course is right for you.

Yes. Please send us cancellations and rebookings by email. Rebookings are free up to 4 weeks before the course begins. You can also send a replacement person. You can find all the details in our Terms and Conditions.
Tandem Flight
Tandem paragliding is one of the most exciting experiences you can treat yourself to or give as a gift. Soaring through the air of the Hohe Tauern with an experienced pilot from the Flugschule Pinzgau is unforgettable. Pure nature, the energy of the elements, completely new perspectives – you will love it!
How does a tandem flight work?
Your tandem pilot will give you a short briefing before launch and explain the equipment. Then you will both be harnessed to the wing together. After a few running steps, you will take off. In the air, you can talk to the pilot, ask questions, or simply enjoy the view. The landing is usually gentle in a meadow, and you only walk a few steps along.
Do I need to be athletic?
No. You do not need any prior knowledge or special fitness. You only need to be able to walk a few steps.
How long does a tandem flight take?
It depends on the flight area and the weather. The panorama flight in Zell am See takes around 20 to 30 minutes. The Wildkogel Light is the shorter flight, ideal for the first flight. Plan at least 2 hours in total, including the drive up, preparation, and return trip.
Can children also fly?
Yes, children from age 5 can fly with the consent of their legal guardians. There is no upper age limit, as long as their physical condition allows it. It is best to call us beforehand for children so that we can plan everything properly.
Is there a weight limit?
The deciding factor is the maximum weight of the tandem wing for the pilot and passenger together. Please tell us your weight when booking, and we will arrange the right pilot and wing.
Can several people fly at the same time?
Yes, if enough pilots are available. Then you will fly at the same time and can see each other in the air. Ideal for couples, families, and groups.
What should I wear?
Sturdy, ankle-high footwear, weather-resistant clothing, gloves, sunglasses, and sunscreen. Your pilot will provide the helmet and flight equipment.
What is included?
The flight with a professional tandem pilot, photos and videos of your flight, and a voucher for a paragliding taster course worth €80. Lift tickets are not included.
What happens in bad weather?
We confirm each appointment depending on the weather. If no flight is possible, we will reschedule to another day free of charge.
